6 Time Management Tips for Employees

Many of us mismanage our time in different ways which are unknown to us. Planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities with a view to increasing effectiveness, efficiency and productivity is effective for controlling the progress of our existence.
Time management is an important subject every worker should learn, it is advisable that organization should put up workshops for training their employees on time management or engage and motivate them for individual training. Time management can be called time prioritization because one of the ways to manage time is to create priorities and you can’t prioritise if you are not disciplined. Every human living on planet earth both big and small, rich and poor; have equal amount of time –24 hours, 1440 minutes and 86400 seconds every day which makes you responsible for what you do with your time. Time is an asset, it’s a commodity, and a valuable goods, and you trade your time as an employee in exchange of money, while working for someone it is important that you understand and learn how to plan, prioritize, and spend your the hours that you have.
Being able to manage your time effectively as an employee you have to understand some of ways we mismanage our time. Below are some of the ways we mismanage our time or better called our time wasters

1. Many of us plan our day doing too many things

Too many unnecessary things and then we end up not getting anything good done. We must know it is not in busyness or bogusness of your activities.

2. Some of us our time waster is sleep

We love sleep too much, we sleep unnecessarily. Do you know if you sleep 8hours every day by the time you are 30 you would have slept for 10 years and you would have done less meaningful things in those 20 years if you don’t plan your time well enough.

3. Some of us our time waster is social media; Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp

Social media has proven to be a big time sucker. Most times we just tell ourselves 5 minutes and after two hours we still find ourselves battling with 5 more minutes. You should plan the way you spend time on social media especially when your job does not involve the use of social media or you don’t generate your income from social media.

4. Some of us our biggest time wasters are friends.

Most of us have this one friend who doesn’t just know when to stop talking and sometimes you find out you spent the whole day talking about unnecessary things. While everyone wants to hang out with their friends and catch fun, we should understand that not planning the number of hours to spend with our friends and not sticking to it, can interfere with how useful we utilize our time.

1. Plan Ahead

Planning helps you know details of how your day is going to be ahead of time, it helps have a direction of how your day will be. “Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.” –Zig Ziglar.
There are various apps that help you plan your day. Engage those apps in planning your day.

2. Divide Goals into tasks

Most times looking at our goals and trying to achieve them look difficult but breaking them into tasks simplifies them and set you on the right track.

3. Prioritize these tasks

Each tasks fall under two categories; Major and Minor Task or more important and less important tasks. Dividing your tasks into these groups will help you manage your time.

Checking out your morning routine, evening reviews, and setting and following daily goals are a good way to track how you spend your time.

You can’t do everything all alone and even if you can you do it you will have to spend and waste more time. Delegate activities that can be delegated and do the ones you can. It will help you save time.

5. Reward yourself for completed tasks

Deprive yourself of some little luxuries like TV or junk food etc till you get your work done. This helps to motivate you to complete tasks.

6. Be Intentional

Social media is a big time guzzler. Be intentional about the amount of time spent on each social media platform. If you are gaining nothing from been there, discipline yourself to leave the platform.
